Promoting your Website
Creating a Church Website, is just the Beginning
“If You Build it they Will Come”… Not!
If you think that promoting your church website simply means just building it, placing it on the Internet and waiting for people to come is all that is needed, you’re in for a big surprise.
There are a lot of ways that you can promote your church website, but sitting back and doing nothing is not one of them.
This article discusses some ways that churches can promote their website by leveraging (using) social media sites to get the word out.
One of the most commonly used approaches when promoting a website is by word-of-mouth, but that way has limitations based on how many people you know who can get the word out to their friends and relatives.
A more productive way to promote your church website is through the use of social media. Social networking sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are some of the most popular and most visited sites on the Internet.
Promoting your Website with Social Media
Facebook has more than 950 million users, making it the most used of all the social media sites. It is a safe guess that many of your friends and maybe many others would like to know what’s going on at your church. Utilizing Facebook to promote your church website is as simple as creating an account on Facebook and regularly posting tidbits about your church.
You can also upload pictures for members to view, create a fan page for people to view and like and set up an option for visitors to suggest the fan page to friends, all of this will increase popularity. Make sure you add a link to your church website for people to click-on and become subscribers.
YouTube is not far behind, with an estimated 800 million members using the site to upload, share and view videos each month. Imagine if that video clip of your pastor preaching or the men’s choir singing were to go viral. This could lead to many visits to your website and eventually to your church It can and has happened.
Why not use Twitter to announce (in 140 characters or less) Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, or other events happening at the church and then have your followers re-tweet it to their followers, can you imagine the possibility?
Is it Right to Promote the Church with Social Media?
Now there are many who may think it is unconventional to use social media to promote your church website. This is because these sites are primarily for casual conversation and socializing. This may be partially true, but these sites are also the fastest growing sites for people who are between the ages of 35 and 55. In fact my 68 year old aunt uses Facebook regularly.
Final Thoughts
I also just want to point out that Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are three of the most popular social media sites. There over than 100 social media sites that can be used to promote your church websites.
As you can see, the use of social media is an effective way of promoting your website; the church can use these options above or come up with their own unique ways of reaching out to people.
